== NZ Police Analogue (Historic) ==
Police operate a P25 trunked digital radio system in the ESB (VHF 138-144 MHz) and ESC (UHF 494-502 MHz) bands. This includes an AES 256-bit encryption layer, which secures the radio network from unauthorized monitoring.

'''ALL WELLINGTON ANALOGUE FREQUENCIES ARE CURRENTLY LINKED TO PALMERSTON NORTH'''
Tait Communications radios are in use, which deploy OTA encryption keycodes.

Analogue frequencies listed below are for historic purpose only. As of June 2009 the Project 25 (P25) digital radio system has been deployed in the Wellington area (Wellington City, Upper Hutt, Kapiti, Mana and the Wairarapa) for NZ Police.
Note: although modern digital scanners are able to decode signals, they are unable to decrypt them.

The P25 implementation for NZ Police in the ESB and ESC bands includes a DES/AES encryption layer securing the radio network from unauthorized monitoring.
'''Although modern digital scanners are able to DECODE these signals, they are unable to DECRYPT them.'''
Currently there are a number of projects in development to monitor and analyse P25 radio networks.

===Callsign Format===
Police unit callsigns have the first two letters of their home station (eg HN for Hamilton), then usually one (or two) letters for the unit type (e.g. S for sergeant), then numbers for the unique unit or shift group.
Examples:
* HNS1 is Hamilton general duties sergeant section 1.
* TNI3 is Takapuna I-Car (General Duties), Late Shift
* SVH13 is an Auckland Motorways Traffic unit

New Zealand Police

Digital Network

Police operate a P25 trunked digital radio system in the ESB (VHF 138-144 MHz) and ESC (UHF 494-502 MHz) bands. This includes an AES 256-bit encryption layer, which secures the radio network from unauthorized monitoring.

Tait Communications radios are in use, which deploy OTA encryption keycodes.

Note: although modern digital scanners are able to decode signals, they are unable to decrypt them.
