Ambulance staff use many abbreviations and terms.

| AD | Air Desk (within an IOC), which manages rescue helicopters, patient air transfers etc, for an Ambulance service. |
| CCP | An ambulance service Critical Care Paramedic is an advanced specialist clinician, who manages critically ill or injured patients on scene, using specialised interventions. |
| HX | History (medical, of a patient). |
| IOC | Ambulances' Integrated Operations Centre, which serves as the central hub for managing and dispatching emergency ambulance services, coordinating clinical advice, and overseeing real-time fleet deployment. |
| LOC | Loss of Consciousness. |

| Term | Definition |

| Major Incident Declared | One or more major incidents have happened, or demand is overwhelming the capacity to respond. The Emergency Operations Centre is usually activated, to help try to cope better. |
| MedicAlert | First responders can easily access your medical record through a 24/7 emergency hotline by providing your membership number, which is engraved on your medical ID (which you wear), along with your most critical information. |
